IDEE:
“After experiences and experiments in different areas of art as well as attaining the degree from an Art Academy and a longer period of estrangement from WRITING, I was drawn back into it. Accompanied by the opportunity to doodle and sketch my ideas for more than two years as part of my working day. Many of my colleagues played Wordfeud on their phones. I prefered STYLE WARS and the like. Standing here now as an artist who´s focusing the act of STYLE WRITING.”
Is it one? Is it two? Are they many? It seems we can´t be sure! What we do know is that IDEE exists and paints letters in public space. Not necessarily with spray paint. But with a STYLE WRITING attitude to start with. On the following 14 block pages (each 5 posts big) we have arranged works and thoughts of IDEE anachronistically. It is not our aim to show an evolution, but rather to give an overview and idea of the potential and diversity within the world of IDEE. Covering a period of about two years he himself calls “warm up”.
“After a ride of different spiritual experiences due to seeking truth, my current state regarding such things is to remain silent and dismissive. Not to forget how things on earth are evolving … I´m rather realistic and therefore pessimistic about the future. The question is just how strong and intense we, who have not yet been hit that hard, and later generations, will experience the effects of mass destructive mindsets and according behaviour of those being in power to rule. As this situation leaves me rather speechless than having meaningful things to say, I´m more circling around the meaning of art in general within all this big mess. I´m telling you this, because I somehow think this is another big reason why I got back to style-write and style-paint letters. The Speechlessness makes me want to style-write. The words I write don´t mean nothing in particular. They are painted and calligraphied letters. Excluding any intellectual or conscious spiritual approach […] I don´t know what to say in particular, but I still have a voice with a sound, […] Writers treat words as if they were empty. Even if a lot of words and names Writers choose have a long history and complex meaning. We may like how they sound or what they mean. But such an interest needs to be rejected, if you wanna do STYLE WRITING. Because we don´t do visual poetry or so. We write and paint (or build) letters. So better call us architects, with more apprentices than master-builders. But we all take part in a cultural performance within the urban space and even beyond. Students and Masters side by side. […] The cultural aspect is easily recognized, analyzed and maybe even understood by outsiders, on the contrary to the art of letter-shaping itself. […] Some [Writers] appreciate and focus the art in it, others the so-called crime or the sport. Different attitudes and approaches, visible for everybody and therefore hard to distinguish for the untrained, unteached mind. […] To me, STYLE WRITING and the way how I do it, provides the possibility to still express the complexity of how I experience life. […] I´m playing letters. Not like a kid plays with toys. And even if letters were toys, I´m playing them like instruments. […] So wow! For some reason I choose to give STYLE WRITING a sense, as it makes sense for me to do it. Even if there are many reasons why this activity may belong to the senseless ones in live.”
